Earnings Preview: Halliburton (HAL) is Expected to Post Flat Earnings

Halliburton Company is expected to report its fourth quarter earnings in line with consensus estimates. Market analysts are expecting the company to announce its quarterly earnings at $0.99. The company is likely to benefit from the increase in the number of rigs around the world. It is also expected to reap the benefits of short term margin headwinds. Among the negative features which may have adverse impact on Halliburton's financial numbers is the increase in competition.

Halliburton Company is expected to report its revenue at $6.8 billion for the fourth quarter of the year. The company is scheduled to announce its quarterly results on January 23, 2012. Halliburton would be releasing its earnings before the market starts. The company is expected to maintain its leadership position in hydraulic fracturing segment. It also is doing well in fracking segment and the results are expected to be positive for this segment.

Halliburton Company reported its third quarter revenue at $6.5 billion. Its gross profit for the quarter stood at $1.411 billion while its selling, general and administrative expenses for the quarter were reported at $79 million. The company's operating income stood at $1.332 billion, while it declared its net income from continuing operations at $850 million. Halliburton Company reported its net income for the quarter at $683 Million.

Punch Line Halliburton Company is the second largest oil field service company. The company is expected to perform well in its North American market. Its performance is expected to be particularly good in onshore drilling segment. However, Halliburton is likely to suffer due to pricing pressure. The company's financial numbers will also be adversely affected by the slump in general economy.  The company has increased the scope of its shale activities. Now, it draws a relatively larger share of its income from shale exploration.
