Earnings Scan: SYMS, AA, VOXX, MILL

The corporate earnings calendar for Monday remained weak, as the second quarter’s earnings season is preparing to kick off with Alcoa Inc. reporting its earnings after the closing bell today. Few of the companies declared their quarterly results before the market opened today, while few companies, including Alcoa Inc. are scheduled to report their earnings after the closing bell. Syms Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMS) a leading off-price retailer, reported its first quarter FY 2011 financial results. The company reported net income of $1.5 million, or $0.10 per diluted share for the quarter, compared to a net loss of ($0.8) million, or ($0.06) per diluted share in the first quarter FY 2010. Net sales for the quarter decreased 13 percent to $105.4 million, compared to $121.4 million in the comparable quarter last year. SYMS is trading

Alcoa Inc. (NYSE: AA) is scheduled to report its second quarter FY 2011 earnings after the closing bell Monday. Analysts at Wall Street expect Alcoa to report earnings of $0.34 per share. Shares of Alcoa were trading lower by 2.08 percent to $16.04 a share in the initial hour of trading Monday.

Audiovox Corporation (Nasdaq: VOXX) is expected to report its first quarter FY 2012 financial results after the closing bell on Monday. For this quarter, analysts have not estimated any earnings estimates. However, Audiovox reported earnings of $0.05 per share in the first quarter FY 2011. Shares of Audiovox were trading up 0.39 percent to $7.68 today.

Miller Energy Resources Inc. (NYSE: MILL) is scheduled to report its fourth quarter FY 2011 earnings later in the day today. Analysts at Wall Street expect Miller to report a loss of ($0.08) per share for the quarter. In the same period last year, Miller had reported a loss of ($2.18) per share. Shares of Miller are currently trading lower by 0.99 percent to $6.99 a share.
