Chennai, Dec. 28

IIT-Madras will host the 24th International Conference on VLSI (very-large-scale integration) design and the 10th international conference on Embedded Systems from January 2- 7, 2011. The event for the VLSI/semiconductor industry returns to Chennai after a decade. The VLSI is the process of creating integrated circuits by combining thousands of transistors into a single chip.

With the theme being “Embedded products for emerging markets - Infrastructure, Energy and Automotive,” the conference will provide a platform for academicians, researchers and practitioners to meet and discuss the latest technological advances that drive the semiconductor, computing, electronics, and electronic design automation industries.

The three-day exhibition from January 4-6 will see over 30 companies and a few universities showcasing their new products and solutions.

To encourage student and faculty participation from India, fellowships are offered by the conference to students and faculty, which covers free registration and accommodation at IIT Madras campus, according to a press release issued by the VLSI Society of India.

There is a need to have discussions on the trends and the road ahead as VLSI design and embedded systems are the core technologies behind all electronics used widely today in these and more domains. These three verticals are also the ones with the highest growth rates projected for India over the years ahead.

The 22 regular paper sessions will contain presentations on the latest research on a range of topics, including analog, mixed-signal, nano electronics, design tools and methodology from physical design to system-level design

Some of the speakers at the event include Mr Thomas H. Lee, Professor, Stanford University; Mr Praveen Vishakantaiah, President, Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) India; Mr Rahul Sarpeshkar, Associate Professor, MIT; and Mr Kaushik Roy, Professor, Purdue University.

Over 600 professionals are expected to participate in the tutorials and the conference in this edition, the release said.
