Cygnus Business Media Executes Second Phase of Organizational Architecture

Digital establishes core team; Flitcroft Named EVP of Construction

Oct. 28, 2010 (Business Wire) -- On July 15th, Cygnus Business Media’s CEO, John French, outlined a dynamic and unique organizational architecture for the company that would consist of four affinity groups – Aviation, Construction, Public Safety & Security and Agriculture – and a Diversified Portfolio comprised of strong, stand alone titles. Over the past 100 days, Cygnus implemented the First Phase of the architecture establishing Cygnus Aviation with industry veteran Pat Nadler as Executive Vice President and creating the Diversified Portfolio unit with B2B media expert Gloria Cosby tapped to lead the group.

French announced the execution of the Second Phase of the company’s new organizational architecture with the appointment of Construction industry insider, Kris Flitcroft, to head the Construction affinity group. Flitcroft most recently served as Brand Director for the company’s Construction network. She has directed and managed the Cygnus’ valuable construction publications and websites and was key in the sponsorship launch of’s first-ever Video Network. Under Flitcroft’s guidance, has become the industry’s most innovative construction website with a SEO-driven Buyer’s Guide, a top branded used and new equipment electronic marketplace and exclusive content focused on government legislation, product reviews and targeted programming for construction industry professionals. Flitcroft, Cosby and Nadler report to Cygnus Business Media’s President, Mike Martin.

The Second Phase of Cygnus’ organizational architecture implementation focuses on the company’s digital assets, opportunities and strategic alliances. In June, Cygnus Business Media hired digital media expert, Tom Kohn, to lead the company’s digital initiatives as Executive Vice President/Digital. Kohn spent 25 years conceiving of and launching media businesses and corporate media divisions for the world’s top media brands, including and AOL. He launched two successful start-ups in Washington, DC, and served as strategic consultant for the Associated Press. He has also worked with Viacom New Media and spent 10 years in New York City as a television executive, three with Ogilvy & Mather Advertising.

Kohn has appointed Eric Kammerzelt to the position of Vice President of Technology. Kammerzelt has directed many of the company digital assets, most recently as the lead project manager behind the proprietary Base 2.0 system. He was named to the Folio 40 in March of this year.

Paul Caplan will become Senior Vice President of Digital Revenues. Caplan oversaw the launch of and the successful launch of industry branded enewsletters, podcasts, ebooks and more. He will be responsible for delivering revenues on all digital programs that span across all of Cygnus.

Jacob Bare has been named Director of Digital Intelligence, a newly created position that will work closely with Cygnus’ data integration partner Omeda as it consolidates company lists and collaborates with Base 2.0 to give the company significant intelligence on user behaviors and interests and be able to serve customized content and advertising based on this data.

Sharon Wright will move into the Director of Digital Operations role, managing all operations as it relates to corporate initiatives. Wright is currently the Director of Web Development and Strategy for Public Safety. She has worked in the company’s digital/interactive area since its early days moving from - Web Specialist, Site Manager, Senior Site Manager, Project Manager and Business Development Manager, Interactive.

Robert Brice, who currently directs Cygnus Fire and EMS public safety media including expos, magazines and websites has been tapped as Senior Vice President, Cygnus Expositions. The public safety expos that Brice has overseen – EMS EXPO, Firehouse World, Firehouse Central and Firehouse Expo – continue to lead the industry with a distinct and influential community of thousand of First Responders. He also has a diverse background that includes publishing and portals, experience necessary as the company integrates all media under one structure. Brice will also report directly to Cygnus Business Media President, Mike Martin.
