Pavin, the U.S. Ryder Cup captain, played a bogey-free round until the 17th hole and finished 36 holes at 10-under 134, one shot better than Mark Wiebe, who also carded a 68 to remain within a stroke at 9-under 135 on the Tournament Course at The Woodlands.

Pavin appeared to be getting his game back after a long layoff before the tough U.S. loss to Europe in the Ryder Cup. He now is in a good position to win his first Champions Tour title.

Tom Lehman registered a 68 to finish two rounds at 5-under 139 and was the only other player within five shots of Pavin's lead.
