US stocks  swung between gains and losses on Friday as investors digested a spate of economic data, corporate earnings and comments from Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke.

Below we highlight few companies whose shares are actively trading in Friday's session.

Seagate Technology Plc, (NASDAQ: STX) soared as much as 20% after Bloomberg reported that hard-disk drive maker is in talks to be acquired by TPG Capital and KKR & Co. 

GameStop Corp. (NYSE: GME) slumped as much as 3% on Friday, a day after the market research firm NPD Group said U.S. retail sales of game hardware, software and accessories slumped 8 percent in September to $1.2 billion.

Discovery Laboratories, Inc. (NASDAQ: DSCO) jumped more than 2% after it announces that the Phase 2a clinical study of aerosolized KL4 surfactant (lucinactant) in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) has been completed and the results from the study will be presented at the upcoming North American Cystic Fibrosis Conference (NACFC; October 21-23, 2010). Preliminary observations from this trial include the determination that delivery of aerosolized KL4 surfactant to CF patients is feasible and that aerosolized KL4 surfactant was generally safe and well tolerated in this trial. Additionally, no serious adverse events (SAEs) were reported following treatment with aerosolized KL4 surfactant. 

Questcor Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: QCOR) rallied more than 6% after it announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved Questcor's supplemental new drug application for H.P. Acthar Gel (repository corticotropin injection) in the treatment of infantile spasms, an ultra-rare orphan disorder affecting approximately 2,000 American children annually. IS is a devastating and potentially life-threatening form of epilepsy seen in infancy and early childhood.

Shares of Shamir Optical Industry Ltd. (NASDAQ: SHMR) soared more than 16% after the company announced that it has entered into an agreement with Kibbutz Shamir and Essilor International, whereby Essilor would acquire 50% of Shamir Optical. Upon completion of the deal in mid 2011, Kibbutz Shamir and Essilor will each own 50% of Shamir Optical.
