Oct. 5, 2010 (Xinhua News Agency) -- Syria's Assad, Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq leader talk about forming Iraqi gov't
DAMASCUS, Oct.5 (Xinhua) -- Syrian President Bashar al-Assad discussed with Ammar al-Hakeem, the leader of Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, on Tuesday about the forming of Iraqi unified government, the Syrian official SANA news agency reported.
The two men conferred the Iraqi situation and dialogue among the parliamentary blocs.
Negotiations between Iraqi blocs over forming a new national government have yet to be successful more than six months after war-torn Iraq hold the legislative elections.
The narrow winning in the parliamentary polls produced no clear winner, sparking bitter row over who should have the right to form the next government. The Iraqia bloc leaded by Ayad Allawi, rules out taking part in any new governmental coalition led by the incumbent prime minister Nuri al-Maliki.
Kurdistan Alliance senior official Mahmoud Othman ruled out in a statement on Tuesday a new coalition that includes the Islamic Supreme Council, Al Iraqiya List and Kurdistan Alliance.
