BEIJING, Sep. 25, 2010 (Xinhua News Agency) -- China may find it difficult to control the growth of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) within 3 percent this year, predicts Wang Jian, an expert with China Society of Macroeconomics under the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).

Driven by rising food prices, China's CPI growth may hit 5 percent in October, and the CPI rise for the whole year will be under 4 percent, said Wang.

Wang predicted that China's economy will show clear downward trend in the fourth quarter of this year.

China's CPI growth hit 22-month high of 3.5 percent in August. (Edited by Jiang Yujuan,
