Pakistan, Sep. 17, 2010 (Xinhua News Agency) -- An explosion caused no casualties but panic Friday in a downtown area of Quetta in southwest Pakistan's Balochistan, police and witnesses said.

The roadside blast went off in a trash box near a hospital in Quetta, police said. A bomb disposal squad of the police rushed to the site.

Iqbal Hussain, a local resident, told Xinhua that he heard a loud explosion in the city but not sure about the location.

No one was hurt in the blast, but it was aimed at creating panic in the city, police said.

Taliban militants, in the past, claimed responsibility for cracker attacks in some major Pakistani cities.

On the third day of September, a suicide bomb blast targeting a large Shiite Muslim rally in Quetta killed at least 73 people and injured over 160 others. The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and a banned Sunni radical group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi claimed responsibility.
