Sep. 12, 2010 (United Press International) -- Yovani Gallardo won for the first time in a month, throwing seven shutout innings Sunday in the Milwaukee Brewers' 2-0 decision over the Chicago Cubs.
Gallardo (12-7) scattered four hits and three walk to bounce back from a 0-2 record in his previous five starts. He struck out six.
His effort allowed the Brewers to avoid a three-game sweep at the hands of the Cubs.
Gallardo also helped himself at the plate, doubling to lead off the fifth and coming home on Ryan Braun's two-out double.
Casey McGehee also bashed his 21st homer of the season for Milwaukee.
Cubs starter Casey Coleman (1-2) surrendered five hits and a run in six innings.
