OSAKA, Sep. 2, 2010 (Kyodo News International) -- Sharp Corp. said Thursday it will start marketing its 3-D liquid crystal display televisions in Europe in early September.

It plans to launch 46-inch and 60-inch models of Aquos Quattron 3-D series with its innovative four-color LCD panel technology in such European countries as Britain and Germany, the Osaka-based company said. Expected market prices are not available.

Competition among 3-D TV makers in Europe is likely to be intense with the entry of Sharp, as Sony Corp. (NYSE:SNE) , Panasonic Corp. (NYSE:PC) and South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. among others have already introduced their 3-D TVs in the market.

Sharp, meanwhile, announced that it has concluded a sponsorship contract with the Union of European Football Association as ''a EUROTOP partner'' to become a top-graded official sponsor company for the governing body of football in Europe, with the aim of enhancing its brand awareness and promoting sales of its LCD TVs and other products.

Under the sponsorship deal effective from Aug. 31 through the end of 2013, whose value was not unveiled, Sharp becomes the exclusive partner of audiovisual equipment and solar-related products for the upcoming quadrennial event of UEFA's flagship national team competition taking place in Poland and Ukraine in the summer of 2012.

With integrated broadcast sponsorship rights in Europe, Sharp will launch various football-led marketing campaigns and provide UEFA with leading-edge audiovisual products and solutions to help deliver best-in-class national team competitions, according to UEFA.
