Stock futures

Kingfisher Airline was the biggest gainer among the F&O stocks. The KFA August futures closed jumped 12 per cent to close at Rs 61.5 against the spot close of Rs 61.9 and shed 11.6 per cent or 15.2 lakh shares. However, the KFA September futures closed at Rs 61.85 and added 2.44 lakh shares or 305 per cent, indicating traders are rolling over the long position to next month series.

Banking stocks led gains, while ACC, Grasim Industries and Sesa Goa saw some fresh long positions built up.

Dish TV, on the other hand, added fresh short positions. The Dish TV August futures tumbled 2.36 per cent to close at Rs 49.70 against the spot price of Rs 49.85 and added 4.08 lakh shares or 3.18 per cent in open interest. Similarly, Colgate Palmolive (NYSE:CL) also added short positions.

FII activity

Thanks to their heavy buying in index options (worth Rs 3,189.17 crore), foreign institutional investors' net buying in the derivative segment stood at Rs 3,934.82 crore.
