, Aug. 5, 2010 (Resource News International) -- The Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX)closed
lower on Thursday after Manulife suffered large second-quarter
losses, according to market watchers.

The S&P/TSX composite index decreased by 70.28 points or
0.59% to close at 11,774.77. Trading volume totaled 370.0 million
shares, up from 346.0 million shares on Wednesday. Declines lead
advances 830 to 659.

Five of the TSX's ten sectoral indexes ended higher on
Wednesday and the other half ended lower.

Manulife Financial-------------- dn 11.25% ----- at $ 14.20
Kinross Gold-------------------- 1.90% ----- at $ 16.09

Some of the largest price changes included:
Sceptre Investment Counsel------ up 12.09% ----- at $ 7.51

Canada's agricultural sector faired as follows:
Agrium Incorporated------------ up $ 1.04 ----- at $ 68.45
Buhler Industries-------------- up $ 0.09 ----- at $ 5.80
Maple Leaf Foods--------------- dn $ 0.11 ----- at $ 9.04
Potash Corp. of Sask.---------- up $ 2.84 ----- at $115.97
Viterra Inc.------------------- up $0.52 ----- at $ 9.03
