WELLINGTON, Jul. 21, 2010 (Xinhua News Agency) -- Thousands of football fans crammed into central Wellington on Wednesday to show their support for New Zealand national football team the All Whites' World Cup effort.
Floats carrying musicians, dancers, the visiting Argentinian team Boca Juniors, and the Wellington Phoenix team kept onlookers entertained until the final float emerged carrying the All Whites team including star goalkeeper Mark Paston, Wellington player Leo Bertos.
Speaking at the parade's end at Civic Square, New Zealand Prime Minister John Key saluted the All Whites' efforts in getting to the World Cup and their unprecedented success at the tournament.
The New Zealand team was unbeaten at the South Africa World Cup tournament.
"You made every New Zealander be incredibly proud of your performance in South Africa, and it's great to have you here and to celebrate your success," he said.
"On behalf of the people of New Zealand, thank you for putting us on the international stage," Key said.
All Whites coach, Ricki Herbert, who is also the Phoenix team coach, once again thanked Wellingtonians for their support and praised the efforts of the All Whites.
"I take my hat off to them, they've been extremely dedicated, loyal to the cause," he said.
