BANGKOK, Jul. 7, 2010 (Xinhua News Agency) -- Thailand's Criminal Court on Wednesday was asked by police investigators for permission to detain two suspects in the coalition Bhumjaithai Party's (BJT) bombing on June 22, the Thai News Agency (TNA) reported.

The two, Mr Kobchai Boonplod and Ms Warisriya Boonsom, have been alleged to have masterminded the bomb blast in front of the BJT headquarters in north Bangkok.

The two suspects were taken to the Criminal Court on Wednesday morning by police from the Thai Justice Ministry's Department of Special Investigation (DSI).

The Bangkok Post's website said the court has been asked for its permission to detain them for 12 days on terrorism charges, possessing explosives and using them to harm others and damage property.

Police need more time to interrogate them and have also opposed bail for the couple since they might flee.

Kobchai admitted having been a "red-shirt" guard. But they denied all charges.

The court hearing was continuing.
