OSAKA, Jun. 19, 2010 (Kyodo News International) -- Three crew members aboard a Thai Airways jet bound for Osaka were injured Sunday morning when the aircraft was hit by turbulence over the Pacific Ocean off Kochi Prefecture, the transport ministry said.

The three were taken to a hospital after the aircraft from Bangkok landed at the Kansai International Airport in the city of Izumisano in Osaka Prefecture at 6:50 a.m., following the incident that occurred around 6:30 a.m., the ministry said.

The aircraft carried a total of 244 passengers and crew, according to the airline.

The aircraft, flight 622, encountered turbulence when it was flying over the Pacific at an altitude of 5,500 meters when it was descending for landing, the ministry said.

According to the Osaka district meteorological observatory, the atmosphere around the site of the incident was unstable due to a rain front.
