Former Google’s Chief Executive Eric Schmidt told at a conference on Tuesday that it tried to team up with social networking giant Facebook, as the search engine giant adapts to a shifting technology landscape and strives to maintain growth. He said that Facebook had rebuffed its entreaties to do a deal, while acknowledging he had not pushed hard enough to address the rising threat posed by Facebook during his ten-year run as CEO.

Nokia Corp. (NYSE: NOK) said Tuesday that it expects earnings for the second quarter to be worse than expected because of falling sales and tough competition in the smartphone market. The company also scrapped its forecasts for FY 2011, sending shares crashing more than 16 percent in the morning session of trade on Tuesday.
