Amidst the positive movement of the U.S. market, several companies declared their future dividend plans. Some notable dividend payers are discussed here.


Fortune Brands Inc. (NYSE: FO)  today declared a regular dividend of 19 cents per share, payable in cash on December 1, 2011, to stockholders of record on November 9, 2011. Shares gained 1.75 percent, or $1, to trade at $58.15.


Emcor Corp. (Nasdaq: EMKR), a leading construction-services company, announced that it will start paying a quarterly dividend of 5 cents per share. Shares added 6.61 percent, or $0.08, to trade at $1.29.


SunAmerica Focused Alpha Growth Fund, Inc. (NYSE: FGF), a close ended equity mutual fund launched and managed by SunAmerica Asset Management Corp., declared a quarterly dividend distribution of 5 cents per share on its common stock on September 26, 2011, to shareholders of record on September 26, 2011, and the cumulative dividend distributions paid year-to-date. Shares were up 1.91 percent, or $0.36, to trade at $19.21.


MDC Holdings Inc. (NYSE: MDC), a leading homebuilding and financial services company in the U.S., announced that its board has declared a cash dividend of 14 cents per share on all of its outstanding Class A shares and Class B shares. The dividend will be payable on or about November 14, 2011, to shareholders of record on October 28, 2011. Shares added 2.39 percent, or $.043, to trade at $18.40.


Vale SA (NYSE: VALE), which is engaged in the exploration, production, and sale of basic metals in Brazil,  plans to propose a $3 billion dividend package, more cash than ever before. It noted that the dividends would be equivalent to nearly 58 cents per share. Shares rose 4.41 percent, or $1.06, to trade at $25.10.


Hormel Food Corp. (NYSE: HRL), a leading producer and marketer of various meat and food products in the U.S., declared a regular quarterly dividend of 12.75 cents per share. The dividend will be paid on November 15, 2011, to shareholders of record on October 22, 2011. Shares gained 2.85 percent, or $0.78, to trade at $28.16.
