Several companies declared their future dividend plans amidst the negative movement of the US market. Some notable dividend payers are discussed here.


Airgas Inc. (NYSE: ARG) increased its quarterly cash dividend by 10 percent to 32 cents from its previous 29 cents. The dividend is payable on September 30, 2021 to shareholders of record on September 15, 2011. Shares slipped 0.45 percent or 29 cents to trade at $63.76.


Nordic American Tanker Shipping Ltd. (NYSE: NAT) declared a third-quarter dividend of 30 cents per share, on par with the dividend paid out in the previous two quarters, despite lower shipping rates and shipyard deliveries. Shares added 0.11 percent or 2 cents to trade at $17.99.


American Woodmark Corp. (Nasdaq: AMWD) announced that it will not pay its regular dividend for this quarter because of its uncertainty about the economy. The company paid its most recent regular quarterly dividend of 9 cents on June 27 to shareholders of record as of June 13, 2011. Shares were trading at $16.17 with zero percent change on its last close.


United Bankshares Inc. (Nasdaq: UBSI) declared a third quarter dividend of $0.30 per share for shareholders of record as of September 9, 2011. The dividend payout of approximately $15.1 million on 50.2 million shares is payable October 3, 2011. The annualized 2011 dividend of $1.20 equates to a yield above 5 percent based on recent UBSI market prices. United has increased its dividend to shareholders for 37 consecutive years. Shares were down 0.31 percent or 7 cents to trade at $22.62.


Altria Group Inc. (NYSE: MO) raised its regular quarterly dividend by 7.9 percent to 41 cents per share. The dividend will be payable on October 11, 2021 to shareholders of record on September 15, 2011. Shares fell 0.45 percent or 12 cents to trade at $26.66.
