Sector Scan: Aluminum and General Mining Sectors Rise, Airlines Loses

Aluminum sector added 1.44 percent to emerge as the market’s best performing sector, closely followed by general mining sector by 0.92 percent gain. Airlines sector lost 4.29 percent to become the day’s worst performing sector.

 

In the aluminum sector, Global X Aluminum ETF (NYSEArca: ALUM) gained 0.40 percent or 6 cents to trade at $13.92. Among major stocks, shares of Alcoa, Inc. (NYSE: AA) were up 0.59 percent or 9 cents to trade at $15.37. Shares of Noranda Aluminum Holding Corp. (NYSE: NOR) gained 1.09 percent or 15 cents to trade at $13.92. Shares of Century Aluminum Co. (Nasdaq: CENX) slipped 0.31 percent or 5 cents to trade at $14.36.

 

Among major movers in the general mining sector, SPDR S&P Metals & Mining ETF (NYSEArca: XME) was down 0.61 percent or 40 cents to trade at $65.59. Among major stocks, Molycorp, Inc. (NYSE: MCP) gained 3.84 percent or $2.07 to trade at $56.04. Shares of Amcol International Corp. (NYSE: ACO) added 0.53 percent or 19 cents to trade at $36.12. Shares of Compass Minerals International Inc. (NYSE: CMP) fell 0.77 percent or 65 cents to trade at $83.41.

 

In the airlines sector, Guggenheim Airline ETF (NYSEArca: FAA) fell 2.66 percent or 96 cents to trade at $35.18. Among major stocks, shares of United Continental Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: UAL) were down 9.51 percent or $2.39 to trade at $22.75. Shares of Delta Air Lines Inc. (NYSE: DAL) lost 6.04 percent or 60 cents to trade at $9.34. Shares of AMR Corp. (NYSE: AMR) slipped 5.62 percent or 34 cents to trade at $5.71.
