Energy Stocks Edge Higher as Oil Rises

Energy stocks moved higher outpacing the broader equity market on Thursday. The rise in sector was led by First Solar Inc. (Nasdaq: FSLR), which rose 2.50 percent to $117.25 in the initial hour of trading today. In the broader energy sector, the NYSE Arca Oil Index rose 0.5 percent to 1,276 points, while the NYSE Arca Gas index gained 0.27 percent 667.93 points. Among other gainers in the sector are Valero Energy Corp. (NYSE: VLO) gaining 2.03 percent to $25.67, BO Plc (NYSE: BP) adding 1.33 percent to $44.07 and ConocoPhillips (NYSE: COP) with gains of 1.81 percent to $72.75. Among the ETF’s ProShares Ultra Oil & Gas (NYSE: DIG) was the biggest gainer today with gains of 2.11 percent to $53.73 and Direxion Energy Bull 3X (NYSE: ERX) gained 2.88 percent to $71.44 on Thursday. The biggest gainer among the industries within the sector was Major Integrated Oil & Gas industry, which rose 0.81 percent to 1,110.70 points.
