Progress Energy Inc. (NYSE: PGN): Shares of the company hit a new 52-week high of $42.88 on Thursday. Progress Energy, Inc., a utility holding company, engages in the generation, transmission, distribution, and sale of electricity in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida. 

Genzyme Corp. (NASDAQ: GENZ): The stock today touched a new 52-week high of $70.97. The Wall Street Journal reported late Wednesday that Sanofi-Aventis SA Chief Executive Officer Chris Viehbacher has support from his board of directors to offer as much as $18.7 billion or $70 per share for the biotechnology firm.

Ball Corporation (NYSE: BLL): Shares of the company reached a new 52-week high of $58.98 on Thursday. Ball Corporation, together with its subsidiaries, supplies metal and plastic packaging to the beverage, food, and household products industries worldwide.

Consolidated Edison Inc. (NYSE: ED): The stock today made a new 52-week high of $47.25. Consolidated Edison, Inc., through its subsidiaries, provides electric, gas, and steam utility services in the United States.
