Palestine conflict: Deadly airstrikes carried out after 150 rockets fired from Gaza

IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot attends a Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee meeting at the Knesset

The rocket launches come after an IDF tank struck a Hamas facility in Gaza on Tuesday, reportedly killing two members of Hamas' military wing's al-Nukhba elite unit and wounding six others.

On Wednesday night IDF fighter jets attacked 12 Hamas targets along the Gaza Strip.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) were mobilizing additional troops and aerial defense batteries after Hamas began shooting projectiles at Israeli civilians starting at 7:37PM on Wednesday evening and launched them consistently until early Thursday morning.

Nickolay Mladenov, the United Nations envoy for the Middle East conflict who has been seeking to negotiate a long-term truce between Israel and Hamas, said he was "deeply alarmed" and called on all sides to "step back from the brink".

Israel and Hamas have fought three wars since 2008.

In recent weeks both Hamas and Israeli government sources have indicated a framework for a deal, whereby Israel and Egypt would remove the blockade imposed on Gaza after Hamas took it over in a bloody coup in...

The Gaza Health Ministry claimed that a pregnant 23-year-old Palestinian woman and her young daughter were killed in the Israeli reprisals.

The incident occurred while a group of senior Hamas leaders from overseas were visiting Gaza to discuss the ceasefire efforts with local leaders. Hamas militants responded with a cross-border fusillade that sent Israelis scrambling for air raid shelters.

Pogba becoming increasingly frustrated at Manchester United
His agent, Mino Raiola, is expected in Manchester this week to negotiate the transfer of Pogba out of Old Trafford. Why? "Why? Because it's closed for a month, where he can only think about football ".

Israeli fighters also struck a tunnel on the Mediterranean coast and targeted weapons and rocket manufacturing sites, as well as a military complex serving as a central logistic warehouse, the IDF noted. Iron dome intercepted 28 rockets and most of the others fell on open ground but there was a direct hit on a house in the Hof Ashkelon region and injuries in Sderot and the Eshkol region.

The Gaza clashes reached their peak on May 14, marking the 70th anniversary of the Nakba Day (the Day of Catastrophe), which this year coincided with the USA embassy relocation from Tel Aviv to occupied Jerusalem al-Quds.

In another round of escalation, Israel responded to rocket fire by striking what it said were Hamas militant targets in Gaza.

The attacks come as the United Nations and Egypt try to secure a deal between Israel and Hamas for a lasting truce. "We are closing in on operation in Gaza", he said. He said Israel has offered only an easing, but not an end, to the blockade.

The UN, he said, has engaged with Egypt in an "unprecedented effort" to avoid serious conflict, but warned that "the situation can rapidly deteriorate with devastating consequences for all people".

Last week, the Ministry of Health in Gaza issued statistics regarding the number of killed and injured Palestinian protesters during "The Great March of Return" protests since March 30th until the end of July.

In exchange for any truce, Israel wants to recover the bodies of two soldiers killed in Gaza and gain freedom for two of its civilians who wandered into the enclave. But it has come under heavy global criticism for its frequent use of force against unarmed protesters.
