McGregor returns to UFC

Conor Mc Gregor Khabib UFC

At the end of a press conference that was meant to drum up excitement for the company's coming slate of fights, UFC president Dana White introduced a video that announced the long-awaited return of Conor McGregor for a lightweight title fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 on October 6 in Las Vegas.

He has not fought in the UFC ever since he clinched the 155-pound championship from Eddie Alvarez back in November 2016 at UFC 2015.

The loquacious Irishman hasn't competed at all since losing his lucrative boxing match against Floyd Mayweather in August 2017, and his UFC lightweight title was stripped and subsequently claimed by Nurmagomedov in April.

At the end of the UFC 25th Anniversary Press Conference, Dana White admitted that he lied earlier when asked that question, and he played a promo video announcing that the main event would be McGregor facing off against Khabib (neither fighter was in attendance at the press conference).

Nurmagomedov was the intended target of McGregor's wrath after a previous spat between the fighters' camps.

Nurmagomedov's last fight was held on April 7, defeating in the title fight American realtor al Iaquinta.

Nicolas Maduro ‘survived assassination attempt involving exploding drones’
In an impassioned address to the nation, Maduro said some of the "material authors" of an attack with drones are now in custody. Leftist Maduro, who replaced President Hugo Chavez after his death in 2013, has linked the attack to Colombia and the U.S.

The 30-year-old later turned himself into police and last month pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, meaning he will serve five days of community service and undergo anger management classes.

Nurmagomedov, the Dagestan-born Russian champion, has been one of the pound-for- pound greats of MMA when healthy, racking up 10 consecutive victories since joining the UFC. These two talented fighters have no love loss between them, and fans are anxious for the bout. White laughed. "He's obviously lost lots of money".

The UFC did not disclose the terms of the fight agreement.

Since then, McGregor's return to the UFC has been teased but the two sides couldn't come to an agreement. "In terms of Nate Diaz - they asked me (to fight) Nate Diaz - his legacy is not really an improvement for me because people see me as a victor already and if I win, they will say I look like a bully a little bit because I beat his older brother".

"It's time to go, so it's time to go", Diaz said.

Oddly, Diaz later tweeted that he actually won't be fighting as part of the card.
