John Kelly expected to stay through 2020

Journalists reacted with dismay when the Trump administration barred CNN’s Kaitlan Collins from attending a presidential event in the Rose Garden

Mr. Kelly told staff he agreed to the president's request, one of the officials said.

"I am pleased to inform you that I have just named General/Secretary John F Kelly as White House Chief of Staff". Priebus, the former chairman of the Republican National Committee, lasted in the job only for a matter of months, and the president's choice of Kelly to replace him was widely viewed as an attempt to establish order in the Trump White House.

But Trump has made a decision to stick with Kelly - for now, at least.

On Monday, the president tweeted congratulations to Kelly on reaching the one-year mark.

Trump has reportedly considered replacing Kelly, with whom he's clashed over management style.

Rudy Giuliani: 'Collusion Is Not A Crime'
Rivera said Cohen was somewhat of a "consigliere" to Trump , in that he was the "one key person we tell all of our life story to". Cohen is facing a federal criminal investigation as well as legal scrutiny for NY taxicab companies he owns.

If Kelly survives until 2020, he would be among the longest-serving White House chiefs of staff in American history.

The two strong-willed men clashed repeatedly, with semi-frequent Oval Office shouting matches and speculation that Kelly could quit.

Kelly has often joked publicly about how working for Trump is the hardest job he's ever had, including those on the battlefield.

Kelly did manage to cut off "meeting crashers", uninvited West Wing aides who used to show up to meetings, Politico reported, but he has not been able to control the president's habit of using his favorite network, Fox News, to dictate his agenda.

Kelly has been an influential force in the White House.
