Do you think 3D printed guns mean the end of gun control?

Breaking Judge issues important ruling on 3D printed guns hours before midnight deadline

U.S. District Judge Robert S. Lasnik granted a temporary restraining order Tuesday to eight states seeking to block Defense Distributed from posting the files online, writing that the proliferation of 3-D printed guns would have many negative effects.

White House spokesman Hogan Gidley told reporters on Tuesday: "It is now illegal to own or make a wholly plastic gun of any kind - including those made on a 3D printer".

Which the 30-year-old crypto-anarchist and gun-rights activist planned to do, starting August 1-the same day U.S. District Court Judge Robert Lasnik granted a temporary restraining order against the broadcast of DIY weaponry designs. Eight states filed suit Monday, July 30, 2018, against the Trump administration over its decision to allow a Texas company to publish downloadable blueprints for a 3D-printed gun, contending the hard-to-trace plastic weapons are a boon to terrorists and criminals and threaten public safety.

In a reversal of policy, the Trump Administration recently entered into a settlement that would waive export restrictions on Defense Distributed's downloadable gun files enabling the company to re-post the plans and prompting Washington's lawsuit.

Made mostly of plastic, 3D printable guns, including military-style assault rifles used in many mass shootings, can be just as lethal.

Cuomo said he will pursue legislation to bolster the state's gun safety laws and outlaw private production of all 3D and so-called "ghost guns" that are untraceable and invisible to metal detectors.

Josh Blackman, a lawyer for the company Defense Distributed, said during Tuesday's hearing that blueprints had already been uploaded to the firm's website on Friday.

The State Department spokesperson said computer assisted design files to print 3D guns have been available online since at least 2013 for Americans to download legally.

Turkey's President Tayyip Erdogan says US's threatening language will not benefit anyone

"The argument can go either way because you can say that code is speech, in a sense that a recipe is speech", Nott said.

The company's founder, Cody Wilson, describes himself as a crypto-anarchist and a gun rights activist.

"We're disappointed", Wilson told The New York Times.

The state department has said it chose to settle the case on the advice of the justice department, which argued the government would lose this case as it was about the First Amendment of the Constitution, which guarantees the freedom of speech.

"I am looking into 3D plastic guns being sold to the public".

Washington state attorney general Bob Ferguson had announced on Monday that he would be suing the State Department to get it to change its mind on the so-called "ghost guns".

A federal judge has blocked the release of designs meant to allow people to make their own firearms using a 3-D printer.

Defense Distributed was allowed only to post the plans after reaching a settlement with the Trump administration. He understands concerns about the guns' ability to be detected, but laws already make it illegal for people to possess undetectable guns. The petition for the temporary restraining order was filed in federal court in Seattle.
