Official says agency warned family separation bad for kids

The Internet Can't Stop Roasting Trump For Threatening To 'Shut Down' The Government.

In a thoroughly on-brand move, Trump went on a long Twitter rant that ended with him threatening to shut down the government if Democrats don't vote to build a Wall on the Mexico border. Government funding is now set to expire at the end of the day on September 30, leaving lawmakers just 11 legislative days to negotiate an agreement.

"I would have no problem doing a shutdown", Mr Trump said during a joint press conference at the White House with Italian prime minister Giuseppe Conte. "It's time we had proper border security".

"I have no red line, unlike President Obama", Trump said, referencing his predecessor's "red line" on the use of chemical weapons in Syria.

Hours after President Donald Trump threatened to shut down the government over border security, lawmakers on Capitol Hill were racing ahead with a plan to fund federal agencies as if his warning shot was never heard.

Beyond building a wall, the administration also wants to do away with so-called "chain migration" allowing relatives of immigrants to come to the country, and the diversity visa-lottery program, and to move toward what Trump calls a "merit-based" immigration system.

Mr Ryan said after the meeting: "The president's willing to be patient to make sure that we get what we need so that we can get that done". He added that money for the wall was "not a question of if, it's a question of when".

And that will likely mean far less funding for Trump's proposed border wall than he initially sought, analysts said.

‘Mission: Impossible - Fallout’ sets franchise high with $61.5 million opening
Tom Cruise had previously revealed that his broken ankle hadn't fully healed when he returned to the film's set in January. Series developers Michael Jelenic and Aaron Horvath wrote the script, with Peter Rida Michail and Horvath directing.

Trump campaigned on the promise of building a wall to deter illegal immigration and making Mexico pay for it. Mexico has refused, leading Trump to look to USA taxpayers to fund the endeavor instead, at least for now.

Sens. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., elevated yet another issue to the administration's list of immigration problems.

"That makes sense for Republicans, because they don't want to have it out just before the election", Collender said, "but it doesn't make any sense for Trump". In addition, Trump wants to end the practice of releasing immigrants caught entering the country illegally on the condition that they show up for court hearings, along with shifting the USA immigration system to one based more on individual merit and less on family ties. But Trump's latest threats could bring congressional gridlock back on the agenda in the final stretch of the 2018 campaign. "I would certainly be willing to close it down to get it done".

Instead, the GOP leader says the Senate would be finishing up a package of budget bills this week as Congress makes progress toward funding the government for the new fiscal year that begins October 1.

The House is now in a five-week recess, returning after Labor Day. "But we're going to get the wall, even if we have to think about closing up the country for a while", Trump said. $1.6 billion has already been appropriated for the project. The Senate Appropriations Committee, she said, was making progress and working "closely" with the administration.

Government funding expires midnight September 30.

The Republican president has made tougher immigration laws a centerpiece of his administration, from the first ill-fated travel ban on people from predominantly Muslim nations to the current battle raging over the separation of illegal immigrant children from their parents at the U.S. -Mexico border.
