Jose Mourinho's frustrations with missing Manchester United players at ICC understandable - Stillitano

Jose Mourinho Jose Mourinho has been the first to admit that Manchester United's pre-season preparation has been less than ideal

Ander Herrera has leapt to Jose Mourinho's defence by insisting the Manchester United manager's frustrations during a turbulent preseason are justified.

The United boss questioned why Martial, who wants to leave, had not returned to the US following the birth of his son and suggested Valencia had come back to preseason training out of shape before suffering a calf injury and going home.

Asked if he was confident he would get both, ...

"I would like to have two more players, but I think I'm not going to have two", said Mourinho.

"It's our nature, you always want more for your team, but then club decisions are different and normally you don't get what you want, which happened during all my career".

As it stands, Martial is likelier to be a United player at the end of the window.

Mourinho, who has been on a preseason training camp in the US with his side and has been heavily linked with moves for England global Harry Maguire & Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic.

"We know Real Madrid players left the World Cup earlier than ours".

US' Trump, EC's Juncker say they agree to work toward 'zero tariffs'

Mourinho wants to add Leicester's Harry Maguire and Inter Milan's Ivan Perisic but fears he will start United's Premier League opener at home to Leicester the following night without a squad capable of a title challenge.

Mourinho gave United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward his list of "five names a few months ago" and is now playing the waiting game as the deadline creeps closer. He has looked too cautious at times, and has been very hesitant to go into tackles.

"The players we have bought one is a goalkeeper cover, one is a 19-year-old kid, so in fact we have one new player which is Fred, so of course our team is not going to be very different".

"I am not a big fan of some player to start the Premier League with one club and a couple of weeks later the transfer window is still open and he moves to another club and he plays against his former club".

But Mourinho, who has bemoaned the lack of established players he has on United's U.S. tour, says that is too soon after the World Cup and the start should be a week later.

What I don't agree with is that the Premier League starts now.

"When they have the feeling they can win the World Cup, they close each other".

With Man City running away with the league last season and Liverpool strengthening considerably over the summer, challenging for the title will be hard, as will playing a style of football that will entertain the fans after 2017/18's dour displays.
