Colombia drug gang reportedly puts $70G hit on dog's head

The powerful Colombian drug gang Urabeños put a hit out for Sombra a 6-year-old German shepherd who recently sniffed out more than 22,000 pounds of the gang's cocaine supply

In the above tweet, General Jorge Nieto, comments on the bounty, saying that Sombra has helped the Colombian Anti-Narcotics Police capture 245 people before turning six years old.

Sombra has achieved celebrity status in Colombia, emerging as the hairy, friendly face of the nation's deadly war against drug cartels. Bogotá's El Dorado is considered safer because it is outside the area of the gang's influence.

In 2012 they passed out leaflets offering $500 to anyone who killed a a police officer.

Sombra, Spanish for "shadow", was trained to sniff out drugs and has uncovered so many stashes of cocaine that one of the country's most powerful criminal organizations has put a price on her head.

Gulf Clan leader Dairo Usuga alias Otoniel - one of Colombia's most wanted men - subsequently offered the reward to the killer of the dog, according to the report.

Pramila Jayapal, though she did not connect with any of the House Democratic caucus's leadership. In a speech over the weekend, DeSantis attacked Ocasio-Cortez - who is 28 - as a "girl".

Sombra's efforts for law enforcement have twice earned her the Wilson Quintero medal, an honour awarded for critical contributions to the fight against drug trafficking.

Colombian pure cocaine production also increased by 19 per cent from 772 tonnes in 2016 to 921 tonnes in 2017.

President-elect Ivan Duque is promising a tougher approach to speed up eradication with strategies that could include aerial spraying and the use of drones. Officers also credit her incredible nose with more than 245 drug-related arrests at two of Colombia's biggest worldwide airports.

Since she was transferred in January, the canine sleuth has sniffed thousands of pounds of cocaine out of the dark, helping her handlers find the drug hidden in boxes full of sneakers and wooden necklaces. A few months ago, the tenacious hound sniffed out 77 kilos of cocaine placed deep inside an industrial machine. That dog, as you may have guessed, is Sombra.
