Zoo denies that 'zebra' is a donkey painted black and white

Egyptian zoo accused of bad paint job by coloring donkeys to look like zebrasMore

Sarhan said that the zoo's two zebras were obviously painted donkeys, a view that has since been embraced by online animal experts.

Mahmoud Sarha posed for a photo with the questionable zebra. He shared the photos on Facebook and they were widely shared.

The black paint had melted on the donkey's face and the ears didn't look like the right size for a zebra, he said.

The freakish creature was spotted by student Mahmoud A.Sarhani who was visiting the recently opened animal sanctuary at the International Garden municipal park.

Egyptian zoo ‘paints donkey’ to look like zebra
Some people reckon this “zebra” is actually a donkey

And thirdly, even a rudimentary glance upon the animal would tell you the stripes look very odd and smudged on the face, not like the majestic zebra we all know and love. He may be in for a surprise-zebra stripes are shaped differently, and don't come off on your hand when you touch them.

This is not the first time a zoo has reportedly tried to pull this trick - a zoo in Gaza tried to fool visitors by dyeing two donkeys to look like zebras in 2009.

The zoo has denied the allegations insisting their zebras are real. In 2013, a zoo in China's Henan province claimed a Tibetan mastiff dog as an African lion.

But, according to a yarn from Oddity Central, the park's director Mohamed Sultan "flat-out denied rumors" about the fake zebra.
