United Kingdom temperatures set to test all-time record as heatwave continues

Friday could be the UK's hottest day on record the Met Office has said

Weather forecasters today warned Peterborough can expect thunderstorms later this week as the heatwave continues.

Thursday was the hottest day of the year so far, as temperatures hit 35.1C (95.18F) in Wisley, Surrey.

The RAC said it is expecting breakdowns across the United Kingdom to be up around 15-20% on what they would normally expect for late July by the end of Thursday, adding that breakdowns are already up 25% in London.

The 33.3C high was recorded at Santon Downham in Suffolk, the Met Office said - and it is set to get hotter.

The highest temperature recorded in 2017 was 34.5degC at Heathrow on June 21.

The British record is 38.5C set in August 2003 near Faversham in Kent, southeast England, while the highest July temperature was 36.7C in 2015 at Heathrow airport.

Meanwhile sun worshippers in the United Kingdom have sizzled in the hottest temperature of the year so far, with a scorching 33.3C recorded in England yesterday.

The Met Office warning applies for the whole East Coast from 2pm to 11.45pm on Friday, July 27.

‘All Bets Are Off’ Between Donald Trump and Michael Cohen
During the campaign, the Trump team denied any knowledge of the deal between Ms McDougal and American Media. The others on which Trump appears, the report says, only include "snippets" of the president speaking.

Forecasters said there is a chance of hitting 34C or 35C, which could put Britons in line for the hottest day since the mercury hit 34.5C at Heathrow on June 21 a year ago.

NHS Providers - the trade body which represents NHS services - said some hospitals are back to "winter conditions" after reporting record numbers of A&E admissions.

The heatwave baking Britain comes as extreme hot weather grips northern Europe, with scientists warning that the kind of conditions being seen at the moment in much of the northern hemisphere are made more likely by cliamte change.

In the capital, London Fire Brigade called for a temporary ban on barbecues in public parks after a spate of grass fires, while Highways England demanded drivers refrain from throwing rubbish from their vehicles following a surge in fires by busy roads.

The Met Office is advising people to stay out of the sun and keep drinking fluids.

Separately on Thursday a committee of lawmakers said premature deaths from heatwaves in Britain could more than treble to around 7,000 a year by mid-century if the government does not take action.

The warning that there is a 90% possibility of heatwave conditions came into force on Monday morning and will last until 9am on Friday in the Midlands, south-east England and eastern England.
