Putin made 'incredible offer' in Russian hacking case

AFP | US President Donald Trump and Russia's President Vladimir Putin shake hands at the Presidential Palace in Helsinki

Senior Republican Senator Lindsey Graham described Trump's Helsinki summit and joint press conference with Putin as a "missed opportunity" to hold Russian Federation accountable for meddling in the 2016 election. The Russian agents are accused of hacking email accounts controlled by the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton's campaign and publicizing messages.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said Trump had missed an opportunity to firmly hold Russian Federation accountable for 2016 meddling and deliver a warning about any efforts to interfere in future US elections.

President Putin doubled-down on Trump's denial of collusion with Russian Federation during the election, calling claims made by United States intelligence services that Russian Federation worked to help Trump defeat Clinton "utter nonsense".

In case you missed it, Trump and Putin had a joint press conference, and it's been a true ride for most of us unfortunate enough to witness it.

In further comments that angered some US lawmakers, Trump suggested the United States and Russian Federation were to blame for troubled relations between the two countries.

The leaders touched on issues including tensions on the Korean peninsula and the situation in Syria during their first summit, Putin said at a joint press conference.

Utah Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch, a key Trump ally, issued a statement backing up the intelligence community, but did not directly criticize the President.

"The Russians were relentless in their efforts to meddle in the 2016 elections, and their efforts are ongoing".

Add Donald Trump as an interest to stay up to date on the latest Donald Trump news, video, and analysis from ABC News. The president, whose visit to Windsor Castle lasted 57 minutes - 17 more than expected - kept his jacket unbuttoned.

"For the President of the United States to side with President Putin against American law enforcement, American defence officials, and American intelligence agencies is thoughtless, dangerous, and weak", Mr Schumer said. "We won that race and it's a shame that there can be even a little bit of a cloud over it", he said. "I want to know - where is the server and what is the server saying?"

Putin again denied that Moscow ever interfered in the 2016 US election and proposed an "expert council" to improve relations between the countries. "I think we're all to blame". 'I will say this, I don't see any reason why it would be'. On business, Putin said the United States and Russian Federation will put together a "working group" of businessmen from the two countries to improve ties and communication.

"I did not think this was a good moment for our country", Corker said.

Trump appeared to take the Russian president's denial of interference at face value while calling the U.S.'s own Justice Department special counsel's probe as a "disaster".

"We have a lot of good things to talk about".

After Trump concluded his remarks, American reporters shouted several questions about whether he would bring up election meddling during his discussions with Putin.

As you may be aware, Trump and Putin held their summit in Helsinki today.
