Steady Angelique Kerber beats Serena Williams in Wimbledon final

Serena Williams Upset in Wimbledon Final

'Yeah it was such an fantastic tournament for me, ' Williams said, fighting back the tears.

She says Angelique Kerber played well from the first to the last point and was unbelievable.

After giving birth to their baby girl, Williams had several complications which required immediate and multiple surgeries. Williams was mostly her own undoing, too: She was responsible for the final's initial six unforced errors.

"She's just getting started, she's just not match tough", tennis Hall of Famer Billie Jean King said. "All right, next time when I play her or play someone like her, I'll be more ready".

Left-hander Kerber displayed her rock-solid defence to break Williams in the opening game - repelling a fierce baseline onslaught to induce an error at the end of a 18-stroke rally.

Attacking right-hander Graf relied on her big forehand and serve while left-hander Kerber is more of a counter-puncher, as she displayed to great effect on Saturday when dealing with the inevitable Williams barrage. I think by losing, it will incentivize her even more to do well for the rest of the year, to get really fit and get back.

Serena, who had played well up until this point, did not play a clean and effective match in the final.

Pakistan mourns victims of election rally bombing
Sharif returned from London with his daughter Maryam to face a 10-year prison sentence on corruption charges, officials said. Durrani is running in the July 25 vote against popular former lawmaker Imran Khan.

Ohanian's Instagram post was accompanied by a powerful image of Williams, with the phrase "just getting started". It was such an fantastic tournament for me. I think two weeks ago nobody expected I can go so far.

'I'm just me, that's all I can be.

"I think that I tried to enjoy every single moment now". It is obviously disappointing but I can not be disappointed. Kerber rises to No. 4 with the victory, while Williams is up from No. 181 to No. 28.

Williams is bidding for her eighth championship at the All England Club and 24th Grand Slam title in all, which would equal Margaret Court's all-time record.

Playing her first slam final since the 2017 Australian Open, which she won while two months pregnant, in only her fourth tournament back, it was perhaps no surprise that Williams started nervously.

Ten months after the hard birth of daughter Alexis Olympia, the 36-year-old Williams had powered into her 10th Wimbledon final and looked poised for an eighth crown. Yet, Williams' showed an enormous degree of maturity and good sportsmanship as she complimented her opponent, thanked her fans and supporters, and laid the truth down without reservation in front of a packed building and an audience of millions watching around the world.

Despite so much Grand Slam success, despite holding a 6-2 career edge against Kerber entering the day, Williams played tightly right from the outset.
