'Ceasefire reached' between Israel and Gaza militants

SOLDIERS BOARD one of the two Gaza-bound boats carrying pro Palestinian activists in the Mediterrane

Relatives of Palestinian Othman Helles, 15, who was killed at the Israel-Gaza border, react in Gaza City July 13, 2018.

Two Palestinians were killed on Saturday as Israel unleashed a wave of air strikes against the Gaza Strip, while scores of rockets were fired back from the Hamas-run territory.

The Israeli military aggression killed almost 2,200 Palestinians and injured over 11,100 others. Several hours after the announcement, the Israeli military said Palestinians fired two mortar bombs towards Israel and that it responded by striking the weapon used in the attack in the southern Gaza Strip.

Those projectiles caused thousands of Israelis to flee to bomb shelters from their homes, according to the Israel Defense Forces.

IAF jets hit a high-rise building in the Shati refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip early Saturday evening.

In the other direction "more than 60 rockets" were fired at southern Israel from Gaza, the Israeli military said, of which "approximately 10 rockets were intercepted".

In the 24 hour period between Saturday and the early overnight hours of Sunday, Hamas fired almost 200 rockets and mortar shells at southern Israel.

"The Hamas terror organization is responsible for the events transpiring in the Gaza Strip and emanating from it and will bear the consequences for its actions against Israeli civilians and Israeli sovereignty", the army said, adding that "the IDF views Hamas' terror activity with great severity and is prepared for a wide variety of scenarios".

Without Republican defections, however, Senate rules leave Democrats with scant options to block confirmation of Trump's nominee. Because an important part of that paper trail was printed working under Kenneth Starr and George W.

On the same day, a 15-year-old Palestinian boy was shot dead as he reportedly attempted to climb the fence into Israel.

The majority of those killed were involved in protests and clashes but others were seeking to breach or damage the border fence.

Later, the Israeli military claimed an officer was wounded by a grenade.

Israel says its use of live fire is necessary to defend its borders and stop infiltrations.

"Allowing Hamas to dictate the terms of the ceasefire after two months of arson attacks and hundreds of rockets on the residents of Gaza border communities is a serious mistake".

Israel's army said Saturday's strikes targeted military facilities belonging to Hamas.

The protest organisers say the demonstrations aim to press demands such as for a right to lands lost to Israel in the 1948 war of its foundation and for an Israeli-Egyptian blockade to ease. "This attack displays the IDF's advanced intelligence and operational capabilities and can be expanded as needed, in accordance with a situational assessment".

Stating that Hamas' stance over the cease-fire was "clear", Qassem also said that Palestinian groups would take a joint stance after consulting each other.
