Joe Jackson attends the 2017 Soul Train Awards, presented by BET, at the Orleans Arena on November 5, 2017 in Las Vegas.

Joseph Jackson, the strong, fearsome patriarch of the musical Jackson family, has died, according to a person close to the family.

Katherine made the decision to move Jackson into hospice care over the weekend as his health began to rapidly decline.

"I have seen more sunsets than I have left to see". "The sun rises when the time comes and whether you like it or not the sun sets when the time comes".

"We are deeply saddened by Mr. Jackson's passing and extend our heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Katherine Jackson and the family", John Branca and John McClain, co-executors of the Estate of Michael Jackson, said in a statement to ET. "Always. I love you grandpa". Paris wrote on her Twitter account, "this is a lovely tweet. though it upsets me to see whoever is in charge of this account taking advantage of it.my grandfather did not tweet this. i'm not sure if he's ever used this account". I am extremely appreciative of that, I will never forget our moments together and how you told me how much you cared. Jackson also had a daughter out of wedlock. Joe's wife, Katherine, and children and grandchildren were at his bedside in his last days.

In 1982 he launched then 16-year-old Janet Jackson's solo career.

Marlon's twin, Brandon, died soon after birth.

He and his brother Luther formed a band in the mid-1950s called The Falcons, intent on booking gigs for extra money.

His son, Jermaine, spoke out in his final days, tweeting, "For however long he has left, my mother, siblings, and relatives want to be with him, without hindrance". Two years later, they signed with Motown Records.

The group only went from strength-to-strength. He was the first manager of the Jackson Family and late the Jackson Five and was instrumental in his children's stardom. Youngest daughter Janet also became a hugely successful recording artist.

Video Shows Priest Slap Baby During Baptism
Another person said: "If that video would end with the father giving the priest a very strong bitch slap it would be flawless ". Internet users are confused, anxious and appalled at the priest's actions, with one person writing, "That was uncalled for".

Our thoughts are with Jackson's loved ones during this time of mourning. His children told stories about their father being hard on them growing up.

Joe Jackson was criticized at times for being a harsh taskmaster.

"Michael was the type of kid, you know, he was a good kid. and by him being that way, he was able to be Michael Jackson", he also recalled.

'I love my father but I don't know him, ' responded Michael. "The world (doesn't) know anything too much about Michael as far as how he was brought up", he said. "This was the main thing". In a 2013 interview with Piers Morgan, Joe talked about physically disciplining his children. "I came out with some kids that everybody loved all over the world. It kept them out of jail and kept them right".

For many years before that, he and his wife had lived in an estate they built in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley.

Grandson Taj Jackson was forced to post something different about his grandfather's death.

"He says, 'Call my father.' This was before he passed".

He said Joe presided over rehearsals with a belt.

The week before Joe's death, Janet Jackson paid tribute to her ailing father in a touching speech at the Radio Disney Music Awards. "My father - my incredible father - drove me to be the best that I can".
