North Korea still an unusual and extraordinary threat, says Donald Trump

Poll reveals what voters think about Trump Kim summit

The agency previously said that North Korea has informed officials they have many as 200 sets of US remains from the Korean War.

Critics have pointed to the vague wording of the non-binding summit document and raised fears that the summit could weaken the worldwide coalition against the North's nuclear program.

An official declaration, contained in a notice to Congress, came on Friday despite Trump's assertion this month that his June 12 historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un ended Pyongyang's nuclear weapons threat, reports The Washington Post.

Friday's decision followed a high-level meeting between Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Joe Dunford, and National Security Advisor John Bolton.

South Korean media reported that the US military plans to send 215 caskets to North Korea through a border village on Saturday, June 23, 2018, so that the North could begin the process of returning the remains of USA soldiers who have been missing since the 1950-53 Korean War.

Regarding suspension of the exercises, South Korea's Defence Ministry said, "South Korea and the USA chose to delay two of KMEP (drills) indefinitely, which was going to take place within the next three months".

Merkel faces 2-week ultimatum to secure asylum deal
Seehofer has been calling for Germany to turn back migrants previously registered as asylum-seekers in other European countries. More than a million migrants crossed the Austrian border into Germany through Bavaria since 2015.

Trump went on to say that the "number-one statement" in the document he and Kim signed in Singapore was "we will immediately begin total denuclearisation of North Korea", although there was no such statement in the text. While the US military preparations suggest that the repatriation of war remains could be imminent, it remains unclear when and how it would occur.

He dismissed it as "completely false" and said plans were "still preliminary".

Trump repeated his thanks to Chinese President Xi Jinping for supporting sanctions, although he said that the border between China and North Korea was "getting a little weaker now". Close to 7,700 US troops remain unaccounted for from the Korean War, and about 5,300 of those were lost in North Korea.

US officials have said earlier that the remains are believed to be some or all of the more than 200 that the North Koreans have had for some time. That method enabled USA researchers to keep the remains more intact and to glean clues from their surroundings. This would be his third visit to China, North Korea's main ally and key source of trade and economic assistance.

Trump seemingly surprised Seoul as well as the USA military when he announced the cancellation of joint war games on June 12 following the landmark Singapore summit. North Korea had long sought an end to the war games.

The United States conducted joint recovery operations from 1996 to 2005.
