Trump announces plans for Pentagon to create 'Space Force'

The Air Force's X-37B space plane

President Donald Trump announced Monday he is directing the Pentagon to create a new "Space Force" as an independent military service branch aimed at ensuring American supremacy in space - though he may have limited power to develop a new military command.

If the purported "Space Force" plan comes to reality, it would become the sixth branch of the American military.

"We must have American dominance in space", he told reporters in televised comments. "We must have American dominance in space".

"I am thrilled to have President Trump's continued support for this critical mission to help strengthen our national security", Rogers said in a statement.

Russia's Foreign Ministry warned on Wednesday that US military plans for dominating outer space could reignite an arms race between the former Cold War rivals.

He also signed a new Space Policy Directive, which will establish new protocols and procedures to manage and monitor the satellites in low-Earth orbit. The long-awaited announcement has finally been confirmed as the Pentagon authorizes the sixth military branch in charge of space-faring activities and any eventual war we may have to fight with extraterrestrials. However, the proposal was met with criticism from the Pentagon, the Air Force, and high-ranking military officials including Secretary of Defense James Mattis. He had previously declared that space is "new warfighting domain".

Iran rebuffs Trump's call for OPEC to increase oil output
Benchmark 10-year notes last rose 1/32 in price to yield 2.9205 percent, from 2.924 percent late on Friday. US crude's discount to Brent WTCLc1-LCOc1 widened to as much as $9.75 a barrel, after narrowing on Friday.

The White House is establishing a new policy for reducing satellite clutter in space.

Trump, however, appears unconcerned about the treaty requirements, which prohibit sending weapons of mass destruction into space. The creation of a new military branch will take time, as well as agreements from Congress. "Naturally, we keep the closest watch on Washington's intentions and analyze the likely effects", Zakharova said.

Trump says the United States will "be the leader by far" in space and looks to revive the nation's flagging space program.

Both NASA astronauts and Russian cosmonauts are crew members on the International Space Station and the orbiting laboratory is reliant on space launches from Russia's Baikonur cosmodrome.

"Most importantly", he added, "any future exploration plan must be bipartisan".

Many suspect Trump's Space Force talk is just meant to distract Americans from the humanitarian crisis happening at our borders. One of these initiatives seeks to place more men on the moon and eventually place them on Mars. "It depends on political science".
