Recalled melon linked to 60 illnesses was distributed in NC, officials say

Kroger said on Thursday the CDC and the FDA notified them that multiple illnesses have been reported in connection with this outbreak

Other states that have reported illnesses as part of this outbreak include IL (6 cases), IN (11 cases), Missouri (10 cases) and OH (1 case).

People who became ill said they got live chicks and ducklings from relatives and from businesses such as feed supply stores, websites and hatcheries, according to the CDC.

A CDC investigation indicates pre-cut melons, including fruit salads, are a likely source of the outbreak in Michigan, Indiana, Missouri, Illinois and Ohio.

A preliminary investigation conducted by the CDC linked the salmonella outbreak to a Caito Foods facility in Indianapolis, Indiana. The recalled products were sold in clear, plastic clamshell containers.

The smash to end it wasn't his only one of the match. "I always play well at a Slam and always build my form to peak at a Slam. Djokovic was back with his former coach, Marián Vajda, who said Djokovic was not at his best at Roland Garros , but improving.

Only pre-cut melon is affected by the recall. The CDC advises consumers to either throw the recalled products in the garbage or return to them to the place of purchase.

Fresh cut watermelon, honeydew melon, cantaloupe and fresh-cut fruit medley products sold and distributed in the eight states are linked to an outbreak of Salmonella Adelaide. They include diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after eating contaminated food.

If you have shopped at Walmart recently you might want to throw some things out. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days, and most people recover without treatment. The Indiana Department of Health, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention were investigating.

Other symptoms can be much worse for young children and people over 65, however, and the CDC estimates about 450 people die of salmonella each year. For some people, though, the diarrhea that accompanies the illness may be severe and require hospitalization. The CDC has also issued a warning about a salmonella risk from pre-cut melon purchased at Kroger, Jay C and Payless stories in IN and MI. Although the shelf life of the melon is limited, Kroger said, it issued the alert out of an abundance of caution.
