Amazon's package means the streaming giant will have exclusive access to watch 20 matches per season, comprising two full fixture rounds - the first December midweek round and the festive Bank Holiday round - featuring live coverage of every Premier League team.

Amazon's purchase of the twenty Premier League games was only one package. The matches will be across two rounds of fixtures - the first December midweek round of matches, and all the fixtures on Boxing Day. BT bought the other package for £885m, down from its current £960m and for fewer matches.

The agreement gives Amazon a package of 20 matches per season from the league.

The 20 additional matches will cost the telco £90m, bringing the total cost for 52 games to £975 million over three years.

In February, Sky and BT were between them awarded five of the seven packages in for 2019/20-2021/22 at a total bidding price of £4.464 billion.

"Undoubtedly, Amazon is pulling together a strong and growing set of live TV rights to complement its vast content relationship", he said. In Amazon's deal with the National Football League, the games Amazon streamed also aired on U.S. free-to-air TV. "Prime Video will be an excellent service on which fans can consume live Premier League football - including for the first time in the United Kingdom a full round of matches - and we look forward to working with them from season 2019/20 onwards".

This year's Wimbledon tennis championships and US Open Tennis will also be available on demand on Amazon Prime in the United Kingdom, the company said.

Clinton defends response to Lewinsky questions: 'I got hot under the collar'
Former President Bill Clinton tried to clarify his comments about the Monica Lewinsky scandal at a speaking event Monday evening. But after a 21-day trial, he was acquitted by the Senate of charges relating to the affair.

"We know that Sky Sports and BT Sport will continue to provide fantastic live-match broadcasts and programming for fans across the country, and we welcome Premier Sports as a new partner".

Separately, the Premier League clubs have agreed a new formula for sharing any future increase in worldwide broadcast revenue from season 2019/20 onwards.

Facebook made a major bid past year to stream cricket matches from the Indian Premier League and is streaming Major League Baseball games, while Twitter has streamed baseball and professional hockey games.

Amazon and Twitter, along with Facebook (FB) and the YouTube unit of Alphabet (GOOGL), have been aggressive in trying to strike deals with sport leagues.

Under the new formula, the maximum a club can receive is 1.8 times the amount received by the lowest-earning club, the Premier League said in a statement.

The Premier League is easing into doling out fixtures to streaming video. In his annual letter to shareholders this year, Amazon's chief executive, Jeff Bezos, disclosed that 100 million people around the world had Prime subscriptions.
