Apple takes potshot at Facebook with Safari privacy features

Apple CEO Tim Cook poses for selfies with the company's WWDC scholarship recipients

While the App Store Connect app is Apple's new app for developers, the features part of it can still be found in the iTunes Connect app.

"Apple believes privacy is a fundamental human right", they say on their page and on iOS 12, Safari will stop web pages from tracking you without your permission.

"Apps beg us to use our phone when we should be doing something else", Craig Federighi, the company's senior vice president of software engineering, said at Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference in San Jose, California.

According to a report by National Public Radio, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that "We've never been in the data business", when asked about the report about Facebook's alleged agreement with various device makers.

Once you link your phone to your computer, many apps will have a new "Take Photo" option at your disposal (alternatively you can also use your iPhone to scan documents).

In a wide-ranging interview, Cook told CNN that issues around privacy have "gotten totally out of control" and that some form of regulation would be "fair".

Apple's iOS 12 includes updates to its Intelligence Tracking Prevention (ITP) tools with the latest offering blocking tracking features such as "Like" or "Share" buttons by default.

SES-12 launch success
SES-12 will join SES's network of seven geostationary satellites and 16 MEO satellites across Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. The launch was completed just after midnight local time, the satellite was deployed about 32 minutes after takeoff.

"We're empowering people with the facts that will allow them to decide for themselves how they want to cut back", said Cook.

Screen Time also gives parents the ability to schedule a block of time to limit when their child's iOS device can't be used, such as at bedtime.

The announcement by Apple comes amid a growing focus on protecting privacy following a Facebook data scandal and new rules being enforced.

The new features for iOS 12 will be released in September.

The imminent versions of software powering Mac PCs and iPhones will restrict the usage of the purported cookies from Facebook "like" feature that can track individuals from one networking platform to another, stated Apple.

"I think we are all going to be using Do-Not-Disturb a whole lot more", Federighi said.

As it turned out, Apple's focus this year was on digital wellbeing tools, which are essentially aimed at helping users spend less time on their smart devices.
