Vermont will pay you $10,000 to move there, work remotely

For a worker to qualify, they must work full time for a business located outside Vermont, work primarily at their home or at a co-working space located in Vermont, and become a full-time Vermont resident on January 1, 2019 or after.

But maybe you need a little extra incentive to make the switch and try to convince your boss to let you work from home. Vermont is aging faster than the rest of the U.S. population, an economic crisis that has prompted some creative solutions from state officials.

"We think Vermont is well-positioned to capitalize on the increase in the availability of remote work", Michael Schirling, secretary of the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development, tells the Burlington Free Press. Taxes are also less in Vermont than in some other states such as NY. In return, the state is hoping to get a much-needed boost to its economy. In March, Governor Scott and the Vermont Division of Tourism and Advertising introduced the so-called Keep-to-Keep initiative, which is meant to assist vacationers relocate to the state. Vermont will pay for your relocation expenses by giving you up to $5,000 a year for two years. Current residents of the Green Mountain State are not eligible.

In 2019, the total amount of grants can not surpass $125,000.

The legislation is just one of the northeastern state's latest efforts to counter its aging population.

If you're interested in the Vermont deal, act fast.

The state is working out some details of how the program will run, Goldstein said. In March, Gov. Scott and the Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing announced the Stay-to-Stay initiative, a program created to help tourists permanently relocate to the state. Through this program, people who visit Vermont during certain weekends from April to October have the opportunity to network with local employers, entrepreneurs, and realtors.
