Roger Stone: Trump pardon of D'Souza was a signal to Mueller

Trump Says He'll Pardon Dinesh D'Souza

D'Souza, an outspoken critic of Obama, is serving a 5-year probation sentence issued in 2014 after he admitted he committed campaign finance fraud to help Wendy Long, a friend from Dartmouth College, in her unsuccessful race against Gillibrand.

Noting that Trump required Bharara to step down as USA attorney, D'Souza added: "KARMA IS A BITCH DEPT: @PreetBharara wanted to destroy a fellow Indian American to advance his career. Preet Bharara got fired by Trump and I got pardoned, so that's how it all ended up", Mr. D'Souza said. Cohen, meanwhile, is under investigation by federal prosecutors in NY for possible campaign-finance violations and other possible crimes.

It's become common for sitting presidents to hold off on controversial clemency decisions until the end of their terms, but President Donald Trump indicated he's ready to go against that tradition when he announced Thursday that he may shorten the remaining prison term for former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

Stewart, who hosted a spinoff series of Trump's reality show, called The Apprentice: Martha Stewart, was convicted in 2004 of obstructing justice and lying to the government about why she unloaded stock just before the price plummeted.

Patrick Fitzgerald, who is now a member of Comey's legal team, served as a United States attorney when Blagojevich was arrested in 2008 and said at the time that the then-governor had engaged in "what we can only describe as a political corruption crime spree".

This is Trump's fifth pardon.

The New York Times, in a scathing editorial on Trump's pardon of D'Souza, said the president "uses whatever power he has to attack the people he feels have wronged him, and he will do what he feels he must protect himself".

New Zealand to slaughter 150,000 cows in record cull
The country will spend 886 million New Zealand dollars (Rs 4,150 crore) over two years on the effort to eradicate the disease. It is unclear whether she made any mention of the 150,000 cows set to die as part of the eradication attempt.

The official said Trump has prioritized actions that have personally affected him - noting he's been particularly drawn to cases where he believes there was political motivation to the prosecutions.

D'Souza retweeted Mr Trump's tweet but did not comment otherwise.

Stewart was sentenced to five months in prison for lying about a stock sale and was prosecuted by former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey who was then the USA attorney for the Southern District of NY.

D'Souza described being locked up with 120 "hardened felons" as an "eye-opening experience" but that he "came out of it fine".

She said she had been heartened by the suggestion that Trump might pardon her husband, even after Obama, a member of Blagojevich's own party, had declined to do so. "The career prosecutors and agents did their job".

Talking to reporters on board Air Force One, Trump said Blagojevich did something that "lots of politicians" do, adding his prison sentence was excessive for merely saying something dumb.

"I am thrilled and relieved and elated and as an immigrant in America, my American dream has been under something of a cloud, so I'm very relieved to have that cloud lifted", D'Souza told Fox News. Last August, he pardoned former Arizona lawman and political ally Joe Arpaio less than a month after he was convicted of criminal contempt in a case involving racial profiling of Hispanics.
