Will Power Wins 2018 Indianapolis 500

Power earns $2.52 million for Indianapolis 500 win Image by Marshall Pruett

Danica Patrick's professional driving career came to a close on Sunday after crashing out of the Indianapolis 500. Instead, Patrick crashed just 67 laps into the race and was unable to finish, ending her final Indy 500 on a sour note.

"I mean, today was really disappointing for what we were hoping for and what you want from your last race, but I'm grateful for all of it", Patrick said. "I just said, "Oh I'm so sorry"... but she was all good".

"Unbelievable to be the first Australian to win the 500; maybe they will recognize me down there now", smiled Power. "It was a pretty warm day today".

"I can't believe it!" he screamed in the winner's circle.

Starting on the outside of row one alongside Carpenter and team mate Simon Pagenaud, Power steered well clear of trouble through seven cautions and then pounced when he had his chance in the final laps.

Power dominated the final stages of the race, once those taking a fuel strategy gamble had pitted or backed off to save fuel to make the finish - the strongest of which was Scott Dixon. Patrick started the race seventh and ran inside the top 16 before getting loose and hitting the wall on Lap 67.

Despite 42 from LeBron, Cletics take 2-0 lead
He led both teams with six turnovers (bringing his total to 13 through the first two games) and was just 5-of-10 from the stripe. Celtics guard Rozier tallied 14 points in the third quarter to help the Celtics erase their seven-point half-time deficit.

"In a couple of days I'll feel better about this finish", added Carpenter. My career, I've had so many wins, I've had so many poles but everyone talks about the (Indy) 500.

I was with him on Friday in his motorhome, and he had an air of confidence about him, really chilled out, more chilled than I've seen him at any 500.

Still, she is respected and in some cases revered at Indianapolis, where fans still remember her leading the 2009 race before finishing third.

It's always special to be here at Indy, but I've been with him on four Sunday nights after the race where he's disappointed and we have had a deep-and-meaningful for hours.

"I was definitely nervous", she said. "I don't think people know who I am down there".

The temperature at Indianapolis Motor Speedway hit 33 degrees early in the afternoon, equaling the hottest 500 on record. Dale Earnhardt Jr. took to Twitter after the wreck to thank Patrick for her contributions to the sport. Throughout her career, Patrick made eight appearances in the Indianapolis 500 and finished in the top 10 during six of those. "But we had some good moments". Defending race victor Takuma Sato, Danica Patrick, Sebastien Bourdais, three-time victor Helio Castroneves and Tony Kanaan lost control and wrecked.
