Pep Guardiola wins LMA Manager of the Year award

Paul Pogba scored the 2-1 win over Arsenal

Guardiola has spent around £450million on players since his arrival in the summer of 2016, but said City can not afford to continue their staggering rate of spending.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola insists that prioritising the Champions League over the Premier League next season would be "a huge mistake".

The Spaniard, who was also crowned the Premier League Manager of the Year, memorably led Man City to top-flight glory with a whopping 100 points, smashing a host of records along the way.

Fresh from breaking the all-time points tally for a Premier League season, Guardiola said City will aim to bring in one or two new additions during the summer.

That heavy investment paid off with City winning the Premier League and League Cup, but Guardiola said fans should not expect similar spending.

English Premier League Report: Newcaste United v Chelsea 13 May 2018
According to Matt Law of the Telegraph the Chelsea squad were left bewildered by their coaches team selection last Wednesday night.

Burnley's Sean Dyche was also in the running having guided the club to the Europa League while David Wagner and Chris Hughton's names were also being bandied about having kept both Huddersfield Town and Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League. People say you won because you invest a lot, they are right.

That level of regular success is something City have been unable to take on to the European stage, reaching the Champions League semi-finals just once in seven attempts and bowing out to finalists Liverpool in the quarter-finals this time around.

"That competition, you play at Anfield, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Roma, Bayern, United, Juventus, all of the big clubs". Is it going too far if one says that they are the greatest team the Premier League has ever seen? "I don't think so".

Pep Guardiola capped off a stunning season after he was voted the 2017/18 LMA Manager of the Year.
