Heitkamp undecided on Haspel; says McCain's opposition 'matters'

Home Crime Psychopath Dick Cheney Says US Should Restart Torture Programs By Farron Cousins

WASHINGTON ― Gina Haspel, President Donald Trump's nominee to head the CIA, says the agency shouldn't have used its infamous enhanced interrogation techniques, a week after she repeatedly refused to take a stand on the program's morality at her Senate confirmation hearing.

Underneath questioning Wednesday in entrance of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Haspel mentioned she wouldn't allow the CIA to restart the tough interrogation program it beforehand ran, including that she did not "imagine that torture works".

While Haspel is expected to easily clear the panel in a closed-door vote on Wednesday, her confirmation at the full Senate depends on winning support from key Democrats, largely those from conservative or centrist states, who are under enormous pressure from outside liberal and human rights groups to block her.

Rachel Cohen, a spokesperson for Warner, said that he "felt that Ms. Haspel was more forthcoming regarding her views in one-on-one meetings and in the classified session, and he asked her to memorialize those comments in writing".

Yes, but why? If it's all about the enhanced interrogation program?

Amid an intensifying public debate on torture, President Donald Trump's pick to head the CIA on Tuesday said the harsh interrogation program the agency ran at black sites after the September 11 attacks should not have been undertaken.

Golden State Warriors Second Round Breakout Player
Instead, the Warriors coach is confident his team have the advantage of knowing exactly what it takes to win a championship. They will get their opportunities to shine just by LeBron's presence, but they must be careful in this series.

One remark by Haspel clearly demonstrates the real contempt of the career Central Intelligence Agency operative to the moralizing over torture by Senator McCain and others.

Haspel's letter was first reported by CNN. In many ways, her story is representative of the thousands of people at the Agency and throughout the intelligence community who serve quietly, without recognition, and often at great personal risk, in order to keep our nation safe from those who wish to do us harm.

"See, I think people who have actually been tortured who are saying this is not a good thing, you should listen to them because you have never been tortured", she told Trump.

Democrats and some Republicans have expressed concern about Haspel's involvement in the post 9/11-era interrogation and detention programs. "The United States must be an example to the rest of the world, and I support that", Haspel said. "Someone who has been an active participant and enthusiast for torture is not someone who should represent America", he said in an interview.

Despite his own misgivings with President Trump, Brennan has signaled his support for Haspel on Twitter.
