Gap pulls shirt with incorrect map of China from stores, issues apology

Gap 'terribly sorry' over T-shirt China map without Taiwan

The photo of the Gap tee was snapped inside a store in Canada, and The People's Daily, the official newspaper of the Communist Party, tweeted a photo with the "correct" version of the map.

Despite the island claiming self-rule for more than a half century, the Chinese government considers Taiwan to be Chinese sovereign territory.

Photographs of a T-shirt that the clothes brand had apparently sold in Canada were circulating on China's Internet, with many online comments saying that southern Tibet, Taiwan and the South China Sea were missing.

In January, Marriott International apologized profusely to China after sending a letter to rewards club members that listed Tibet, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan as options on a question asking customers their countries of residence.

"Gap Inc. respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China".

U.S. retail giant, Gap has issued an apology after selling a T-shirt displaying the wrong map of China after the design omitted Chinese-claimed territories including islands in the South China Sea, Taiwan and south Tibet.

In a post on China's Weibo microblogging platform, the company said it discovered that some T-shirts it sold overseas "had an erroneous design of China's map".

NASA intends to send a small helicopter on Mars
The Mar's helicopter carries twin blades, which whirls about ten times the blades of the aircraft on the Earth's surface. Sometime after landing on Mars, the rover will place the helicopter on the ground and drive a safe distance away.

The US retailer store has said its apology that it would implement "rigorous reviews" to prevent such things from happening again.

Gap said in a statement it "sincerely apologized for this unintentional error" and has subsequently pulled the t-shirt from the Chinese market and destroyed it.

Delta Air Lines based in the USA and Zara the European based clothing retailer were on the hot seat as well over issues of a similar nature on their e-commerce sites in China.

The White House hit back at the push earlier this month, calling the demands placed on airlines "Orwellian nonsense".

The printed map did not include Taiwan, a self-ruled island considered Chinese territory by Beijing, the capital.

Aside from Taiwan, Chinese troops marched into Tibet in 1950 to bring the region under Beijing's control.

Taiwan's foreign ministry said it was "deeply concerned" about Air Canada's move to refer to Taiwan as part of China in its materials.
