Melania Trump unveils her platform, tells kids to 'Be Best'

First Lady Melania Trump tours the National of Art

First lady Melania Trump on Monday unveiled her new platform of initiatives to help kids, saying her "Be Best" campaign will focus on addressing the well-being of children, social media use and opioid abuse. The comprehensive program will focus on three main points - well-being, fighting opioid abuse and positivity on social media - and is the culmination of the past several months of Trump's various public events, all of which centered around helping children.

The first lady formally launched her long-awaited initiative after more than a year of reading to children, learning about babies born addicted to drugs and hosting a White House conversation on cyberbullying. "I feel strongly as adults we should be best about education our children about a healthy and balanced life".

"They should be mindful to trust in themselves and their own emotions", said Trump. This is the biggest number Melania Trump has experienced in any CNN polling, and higher than any favorability rating earned by President Donald Trump in CNN polling history going back to 1999. The First Lady responded to that criticism during an appearance with tech leaders in March.

Her speech comes later than that of her predecessors Michelle Obama and Laura Bush, who announced their trademark initiatives less than a year after their husbands were inaugurated. Trump said the "Be Best" campaign will help to support families and children affected by the opioid epidemic, reduce the stigma of drug addiction across the country and bring awareness to programs and places now serving the issue like Lily's Place and the Cincinnati Children's hospital. "When children learn positive online behaviors early on, social media can be used in productive ways and can affect positive change".

"It's an urban legend", said Rickie Niceta Lloyd, the White House social secretary.

Latest Forecast: More Storms Possible This Week
Another round of rain and thunderstorms will pass through during the overnight period and Friday morning. Later this evening, storms are expected to initiate near Big Bend National Park and then move northeast.

The first lady will "highlight the importance of using social media and the internet in positive ways", her office said, pointing to a study that claims children who spend more time on new media are more likely to report mental health issues than those who spend time on other activities.

"This is something that is extremely important to the first lady", Sanders replies.

"I do believe that children should be both seen and heard, and it is our responsibility as adults to educate and remind them that when they are using their voices - whether verbally or online - they must choose their words wisely and speak with respect and compassion", the first lady said.

USA first ladies traditionally choose and focus on a single social issue of national interest.
