2 years after Prince's death, prosecutor to update probe

The music megastar, whose full name was Prince Rogers Nelson, died at his estate in Chanhassen, Minn., in 2016 after unknowingly taking a counterfeit Vicodin pill that actually contained the far more potent opioid fentanyl, officials announced Thursday. They include public spaces of the large complex - seen since Prince's death by thousands of fans who have toured what is now a museum - but also private views of his bedroom, the elevator where his body was found, and the so-called "vault" and other areas where much of his prodigious recording output was stored.

However, during a press conference Thursday, Metz said that there is "no reliable evidence" of how Prince obtained the counterfeit Vicodin laced with fentanyl.

Mr Metz said Dr Schulenberg had prescribed the painkiller Percocet in the name of Mr Kirk Johnson, Prince's bodyguard.

A series of photographs from the investigation showed pills bottles prescribed to Johnson, as well as a counterfeit pill that's said to contain "hazardous amounts of fentanyl", according to Minneapolis' Star Tribune, which published the pictures. Prince's doctor had prescribed a medication used to treat opioid withdrawal.

According to the letter (in part), "13 years post-launch, we have exceeded 100 million paid Prime members globally". About the latter, he writes, "Unrealistic beliefs on scope - often hidden and undiscussed - kill high standards".

The messages show Johnson contacted Schulenberg on April 7, 2016 because Prince wasn't feeling well and wanted fluids.

"We are in the middle of an unprecedented and horrific epidemic of opioid overdoses in this country", Metz said.

That evening Schulenberg spoke with Prince's management, about arranging chemical dependency treatment for Prince, Metz said.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar took a moment to remember Prince on the Senate floor. The official cause of death was ruled to be a self-administered overdose. The concentration of fentanyl in Prince's blood alone was 67.8 micrograms per liter, which outside experts called "exceedingly high".
