Starbucks will close 8000 US stores May 29 for racial-bias training

Starbucks Will Close More Than 8000 Stores To Hold Anti–Racial Bias Training In May

The two men entered the Starbucks and asked to use a bathroom, but an employee said it was only for paying customers.

And the company's plan to combat the racial bias they claim was involved in the Philadelphia incident is to bring on liberal and far-left groups, as well as, to help address the issue.

Starbucks has also launched a review of training and practices to make reforms where necessary, and once completed, this will be made available to other companies, including their licensee partners, it said.

Philadelphia police on late Tuesday released the series of calls that led to the arrest of the two men. "We will learn from our mistakes and reaffirm our commitment to creating a safe and welcoming environment for every customer", Howard Schultz, Starbucks executive chairman, said.

"Certainly what happened in our store that resulted in the arrest of these two young men was reprehensible - it shouldn't have happened", he said, adding that the employee who called 911 no longer works at the company.

Erdogan Sets June 24 For Early Presidential, Parliamentary Elections in Turkey
Why does Turkey need snap parliamentary elections? The elections are the first to be called early in Turkey since 2002. It is highly unusual for the president to make such statements to the press in person at his presidential palace.

The company in its announcement on Tuesday mentioned that it would provide the training materials to even the non-company employees at around six thousand licensed Starbucks cafes that would remain open in locations like airports and grocery stores.

Starbucks said more than 8,000 stores would be closed on the afternoon of May 29 and training provided to almost 175,000 employees, and incorporated going forward. The incident has sparked massive outrage on social media, leading to a #boycottstarbucks hashtag on Twitter. The video appeared to show no cause for police involvement.

Johnson also promised to revamp store management training to include "unconscious-bias" education. Nonetheless, the closing of the stores in afternoon willl affect the company's sales on May 29.

Most recently, Starbucks announced on April 17 that they would close over 8,000 stores for 175,000 employees to go through racial-bias training, The New York Times reported. The two men stayed in the store without buying anything and were arrested for trespassing, but were eventually released.

The training will be developed with input from experts that include former Attorney General Eric Holder, founder and executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative Bryan Stevenson, and Sherrilyn Ifill, president and director-counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.
