Commonwealth games 2018: Cameroonian athletes reported missing in Australia

Five athletes from the nation of Cameroon are considered missing as they failed to show up to their Commonwealth Games events

Nso told Cameroon state broadcaster CRTV that the Ministry of Sports and the president of the National Olympic Committee of Cameroon had been notified.

Two Indian athletes were banned from the Commonwealth Games on Friday and ordered to leave Australia "on the first flight available" after needles were discovered in their room at the athletes village.

This comes days after eight Cameroonian athletes went missing at the games, raising concern from the organizers.

One who failed to appear was Ulrich Rodrigue Yombo who skipped Wednesday morning's weigh-in for his quarter-final bout in the 81kg division against Canada's Harley O'Reilly.

The athletes include five boxers and three weightlifters.

It came as Grevemberg said Cameroon officials have pleaded for Gold Coast residents, tourists and athletes to come forward with any information regarding the Cameroon athletes that left the village earlier this week. Six of the athletes had already competed but two had not.

"Although they have valid visas until mid-May. we are concerned because they haven't turned up for events when they are the reason they are here", he told Macquarie Media radio on Thursday.

While it may be "very embarrassing", it's not actually a crime as they have current visas.

The former Chelsea and Fiorentina player is now the Premier League's top scorer, four goals ahead of second-placed Harry Kane . The PFA's Player of the Year will be announced on 22 April during a special awards ceremony in London .

The nation's two other weightlifters and men's basketball team had left Australia and were en route to Cameroon, team officials said.

The Commonwealth Games Federation said it would monitor the situation but athletes had "the right to travel freely" on their visas.

Cameroon officials are still working with the Australian Border Force to locate their eight missing athletes.

Mr Molombe said the incident was very worrying.

African athletes committing vanishing acts at the Australian Commonwealth Games have increased to 13, with five more from Uganda and Rwanda also disappearing.

Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton had issued a warning to athletes in the lead-up to the Games not to overstay the visas they were issued to compete.

"Right now we are anxious about safety and welfare of the athletes and we are taking this very seriously and monitoring the situation with team Cameroon".
